Drip content

Dripping releases the parts of a program in stages rather than unlocking everything at once. You set when each step opens, when it closes, and when it is due; learners see the rest as not yet available until its turn arrives.

Dripping paces a program so people move through it in a deliberate order — keeping a group in step, breaking a heavy course into chunks, or enforcing a sequence for compliance training. It is not a separate feature you switch on: it is how you fill in the Starts and Due values for each step, or the Drip schedule type in the Advanced builder.

A “program” may be renamed in your organization; see Terminology.

  • You can manage scheduling in your organization.
  • The program already has its steps — modules, lessons and assessment links. You pace steps that exist; you can’t create them from the schedule surfaces.
  • Give the program itself a start date first (Advanced → Fixed dates or Drip). Until it has one, the Simple preview’s timeline is drawn relative to Day 0 rather than to real dates.
  • Read Schedules & release windows first if the program has no schedule at all yet.
  1. Open Programs, open the program, and choose Schedule under Scheduling in the left rail.
  2. Leave the header tabs on Simple. Each step of the program is a row.
  3. On a row, set Starts to one of:
    • When the program starts
    • N days after the program starts
    • When the previous step is completed
    • N days after the previous step
    • On a specific date and time
  4. Set Due to one of: No due date, Same day it opens, N days after it opens, or By end of program.
  5. Drag a row to move it within its own section. Changes save on their own — a “Saving…” hint, then “Saved”; there is no save button.

The two “previous step” options are hidden on the first row of a section, because there is nothing before it. By end of program is greyed out until the program has an end date.

Reset to “Available now” at the top clears every step’s schedule and prerequisites on this program. Drop policies and cohort settings are kept. It cannot be undone.

Below the rows, a Live preview shows the resulting sequence as a List or a Timeline.

Pace a program with day offsets (Advanced)

Section titled “Pace a program with day offsets (Advanced)”

The Advanced builder handles dripping as a schedule type.

  1. Open the schedule builder — either Programs → your program → Scheduling → Schedule → Advanced, or Scheduling → Schedule a program and pick a program from the list.
  2. On the Type step choose Drip.
  3. On the Dates step set Program opens and Program closes.
  4. On the Drip rules step choose Add drip rule for each item you want to pace. Each rule has an item dropdown (the program’s own modules — an item can only be used once) plus three whole-day numbers: Opens day, Closes day and Due day. Opens day always carries a number; leave Closes day or Due day blank to skip that behaviour.
  5. Finish on Review & save and choose Save & preview.

Day numbers count from the date the schedule starts — the Program opens date on a Drip schedule, the cohort start on a Cohort schedule. They are whole days; there is no time-of-day setting on a drip rule. If you need a step to open at a specific date and time, use On a specific date and time in Simple mode.

The Drip rules step is only shown for the Drip type, so day-offset rules are authored on Drip schedules.

Scheduling → Drip calendar lays out unlock and close events across the organization. Switch between Month and Week, step with the arrows, jump back with Today. The legend distinguishes Unlock from Close.

It draws events from Drip, Fixed dates and Cohort schedules. Rolling schedules never appear: every person has a different start, so there is no single date to draw. Cohort schedules appear only once their cohort dates are resolved.

For one program at a time, use Scheduling → Calendar in the program’s left rail instead. That view — Program calendar — adds Month, Week and Agenda views, filter chips for Item type and Event kind, and a drawer that opens when you click an event so you can edit that item’s schedule, prerequisites and drop policy in place.

Setting Where What it controls
Starts Simple, per step When the step opens — program start, an offset, after the previous step, or a fixed date and time
Due Simple, per step No due date, same day it opens, an offset, or end of program
Opens day Advanced, per drip rule Whole days from the schedule’s start until the item opens
Closes day Advanced, per drip rule Whole days until the item closes again; blank means it stays open
Due day Advanced, per drip rule Whole days until the item is due; blank means no due date

Someone says content is still locked. Check what the step’s start is anchored to. A fixed date lets nobody in early, whenever they enrolled. An offset counts from the schedule’s start, so check the program’s own dates too.

Everything unlocked at once. The steps are still on When the program starts, or the drip rules have Opens day set to 0. Set real offsets, or a fixed date.

“Add drip rule” is greyed out. Every item in the program already has a rule, or the program has no modules yet. Add content to the program first.

The timeline preview only shows “Day 0”, not real dates. The program has no start date yet. Set one in Advanced.

The Simple tab is disabled. The program uses a shape Simple can’t draw. Hover the tabs for the list of reasons, and work in Advanced.

A schedule isn’t on the drip calendar. Rolling schedules are never drawn there, and cohort schedules only appear once their dates resolve. Use the program’s own Calendar view instead.

People who enrolled at different times aren’t in step. That’s what a Rolling schedule does. Switch the program to Fixed dates or Cohort if a whole group must move together.
