AI provider keys
Lurno’s AI generation normally runs on Lurno’s own provider accounts. You can bring your own key instead: connect OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google AI on the Integrations page, and from then on your organization’s AI work is billed to you by that provider, at their rates, under their terms.
What this does
Section titled “What this does”Each AI provider is a separate card holding one API key for the organization currently selected in the sidebar switcher. When a feature needs to generate something, Lurno prefers a provider your organization has connected; if you have connected none, it falls back to Lurno’s own account.
Two consequences worth knowing:
- Cost moves to you. Generation on your key is metered by the provider and lands on their bill, not your Lurno invoice.
- It comes off Lurno’s meter. Lurno tracks a monthly AI spend allowance per organization for work funded by Lurno’s own keys. Calls made on your key don’t draw that allowance down.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- You need permission to manage integrations in your organization.
- You need an active account with OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google AI and a key you can copy.
- Set your spending limits in the provider’s own console first. Lurno cannot cap what your provider charges you.
- Check the sidebar organization switcher. The key attaches to the organization shown there.
Add a key
Section titled “Add a key”- Open Integrations from your dashboard and find the AI section.
- Paste the key into the API key field on the provider’s card. Use the eye button to check what you pasted.
- Select Save & test connection.
- Lurno calls the provider with the key before storing anything. A key the provider rejects is not saved — the error you get back is the provider’s own. On success the card shows a Connected badge and the key is replaced by a masked value ending in its last four characters.
You cannot read a saved key back. The masked value is only there so you can tell which key is attached.
Choose which provider is used first
Section titled “Choose which provider is used first”If you connect more than one provider, expand Advanced settings under the AI section. It contains:
- Provider priority — a ranked list. Drag, or use the move-up and move-down buttons, to set the order Lurno tries your connected providers in. Editing needs permission to manage integrations.
- AI usage — an AI budget summary showing your organization’s spend for the current month against its monthly budget, plus a table of recent AI usage. This is read-only for organization admins; the budget is set by Lurno, and the panel says “No monthly AI budget has been set for your organization” when there isn’t one.
Rotate or disconnect
Section titled “Rotate or disconnect”- Rotate. There is no in-place rotate here. A connected card hides the key field and shows the masked value instead, so you have to disconnect first, then paste the new key and select Save & test connection again. Do it in a quiet window — AI generation falls back to Lurno’s own account in between.
- Disconnect. Select the delete icon on the connected card and confirm. The credential is removed from the vault and AI generation falls back to Lurno’s account for that provider.
If you revoke or rotate a key in the provider’s own console, come back and replace it here — Lurno still holds the old one until you do.
Reference
Section titled “Reference”| Item | Notes |
|---|---|
| Providers | OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI. Each is a separate card with its own key. |
| API key | Sent once, stored encrypted in a vault, never shown again. Only the last four characters are displayed. |
| Save & test connection | Runs a live provider call first. A failing key is rejected and not stored. |
| Status | The card shows a green Connected badge once a key is stored, and nothing before that. |
| Rotating | Disconnect, then connect again with the new key. There is no in-place rotate. |
| Provider priority | Order your connected providers are tried in. Under Advanced settings. |
| Billing | Usage on your key is billed by the provider directly to you. |
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”There’s no AI section on the Integrations page. AI is disabled for your organization. It is enabled per organization by Lurno, not by you or by your plan — contact them.
AI features say AI is not enabled for this organization. Same cause as above, hit from the feature side instead of the settings page.
Saving the key fails. The provider rejected it. Re-copy it from the provider console — a trailing space or a truncated paste is the usual culprit — and check the key has not been revoked or scoped away from the models you need.
AI stopped working and you didn’t change anything. Check your provider dashboard for a billing hold or an exhausted quota. Providers cut access when a spending cap is reached, and Lurno can only report what the provider returns.
You rotated the key in the provider console and generation broke. Lurno is still holding the old key. Disconnect the card and reconnect with the new one.
Your key saved and tested fine, but generation still runs on Lurno’s account. A connected provider is only used for work Lurno also supports on that provider — if Lurno isn’t currently running a given provider for the kind of generation you’re doing, your key for it is skipped and the request falls back. You’ll see it as usage that never appears on your provider’s bill. Ask Lurno which providers are live for your organization.
You can’t edit the provider priority list. Reordering needs permission to manage integrations. See Roles & permissions.
