Resources & media

Media in Lurno is added from inside the block that uses it. There is no separate media browser to visit first: you add an Image, Video, Audio, or Document block to a lesson, and the block itself gives you a picker with Upload, Link, and — for images — Stock tabs. Everything you pick that way is registered in your organization’s media catalogue behind the scenes.

Every image, video, audio file, and document you attach is stored against an organization and referenced by the block that uses it. The organization is taken from whatever you are editing — the program that owns the lesson, or the collection you are working in — not from the sidebar switcher. So a file uploaded into one organization’s program isn’t reachable from another’s.

  • Have the file ready, or have a public URL for it if the asset lives elsewhere.
  • For accessibility, prepare a short description for each image. Alt text is a plain-language description of what the image shows, read aloud by screen readers and displayed if the image fails to load (“Bar chart of quarterly sales”, not “image1.png”).
  1. In a lesson, add an Image block — from the quick Add block menu, or from Add block → Create New → Media → Image.
  2. Choose Add image on the empty block. A picker opens with three tabs:
    • UploadChoose file picks a file from your device.
    • Link — paste a Public URL and choose Save link. Lurno records the link in your media catalogue so it can be reused; the file itself stays where it is.
    • Stock — pick Unsplash, Pexels, or Pixabay from the dropdown, search, and click a photo. Photographer attribution is captured with it.
  3. Once the image is in, two fields appear underneath it: “Add a caption (optional)” and “Describe this image for screen readers (alt text)”.
  4. To swap the picture later, hover it and choose Replace.

Edits save when you leave the field — there is no separate save button.

The same Upload / Link picker appears in every media block; only the accepted file types and the extra fields change.

Block Accepts Extra fields
Video Any video file Captions (optional) — a .vtt or .srt file — and Poster image (optional), which can itself be uploaded, linked, or picked from stock. No caption or alt-text field.
Audio Any audio file Transcript — optional free text, shown to learners as an expandable section
Document PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, CSV, TXT, RTF Display mode: Download link, Preview, or Inline viewer
Image Carousel Images Several images, each with its own alt text and caption, plus a layout choice (slider, grid, or side-by-side row)

Program and module covers use a different, simpler control — a plain Upload cover drop area, with no Link or Stock tab and no alt-text field.

  • A program’s cover is set from the program’s Settings, in the basics section, and saves with the rest of that form.
  • A module’s cover is set from that module’s Settings, reached from the module’s menu.
  • The accepted formats and limit are stated on the control itself: PNG, JPEG, or WebP, up to 4 MB. Wider images crop best.
  • Once a cover is set, the upload area is replaced by a preview of the image with a remove button in its corner. There is no in-place “replace” — remove the current cover first, then upload the new one.
Term What it means
Upload The file is stored in your organization’s media catalogue.
Link Only the URL is recorded; the file stays at its source and will break if that source moves it.
Stock A photo searched from Unsplash, Pexels, or Pixabay, recorded with its photographer attribution.
Alt text A short written description of an image, used by screen readers. Optional but strongly recommended.
Caption Visible text shown under an image.

Limits. Per-organization upload size caps and a storage quota exist, and video and audio uploads can be switched off per organization. None of that is self-serve — there is no screen for it. If an upload is rejected on size, or the video and audio options behave differently from what you expect, contact Lurno.

The upload is rejected. Each block only accepts its own kind of file — an Image block won’t take a PDF. Use the block type that matches, and check the file isn’t larger than your organization’s cap.

There’s no media library to browse. Correct — Lurno has no standalone media browser, even though the picker’s own wording (“stored in your org’s media library so you can reuse it later”) suggests one. The catalogue is real, but the only way to reach a file again is the block you added it to. To reuse a piece of content across lessons, author it in a collection and pull it in from the lesson editor’s Browse Existing tab.

A linked image or video stopped working. The Link tab records only the URL. If the source moves or removes the file, the block breaks. Upload the file instead if you need it to be durable.

A replaced image still shows the old version. Refresh the page. The block points at the new file as soon as the picker closes.

You can’t find where to set alt text. The alt-text field only appears once an image is actually in the block — it sits under the caption field.

A stock photo search returns nothing. Stock search runs against the provider’s API. Try a different provider from the dropdown, or a broader search term.
