Getting started as a learner

When you sign in to Lurno as a learner, you land on your own learning space at /learn. It’s separate from the admin side of the product: everything you see there is yours — your courses, your next lesson, your due dates, your results.

This guide walks you through your first few minutes: signing in, finding your courses, joining something new from the catalog, and knowing where to look when you need help.

Your learning space has four places in the navigation bar, and that’s the whole map:

  • Home — a greeting, a big “continue where you left off” card, your courses, and what’s due this week.
  • My Programs — every course you’re in, with your progress on each.
  • Catalog — courses your organization has published that you can look at and, where it’s allowed, join yourself.
  • Assessments — everything you have to take, plus your past results.

On a phone the same four live in a bar at the bottom of the screen, within thumb reach. Your account menu (the avatar, top right) holds your account, My activity, My competencies, My credentials, a language picker, and Sign out.

Some of the words you see are set by your organization — what an instructor or a group is called, for example — so this guide’s wording may not match yours exactly. The layout is the same everywhere.

  • You need an account in your organization. Accounts are created by an invitation or by your organization’s sign-in system — you can’t sign yourself up.
  • Someone enrolls you, or you join from the catalog if the course allows it.
  • Any modern browser works. There’s no app to install.
  1. Open your organization’s sign-in link. Some organizations use their own web address; otherwise use the link you were sent.
  2. Enter your Email and Password, then select Login.
  3. Some organizations sign you in from their own portal instead. In that case you follow a link from there and arrive already signed in, with no separate Lurno password to remember.

If you were invited but never set a password, use Forgot your password? on the sign-in screen to set one. Full detail, including reset problems, is in Signing in.

The first time you arrive, a short four-card welcome appears — what this space is, how to find your way around, where your account and privacy settings live, and you’re done. You can skip it. Home also carries a Take a tour button that replays a three-step walkthrough whenever you want it.

Home is built around one question: what should I do next?

  • The hero card at the top is the course you were most recently working on. It says Resume lesson if you’ve started, Start lesson if you haven’t, and shows how far through you are.
  • Continue learning is a side-scrolling row of your courses.
  • To do this week lists what’s due — with the course name, your progress, and the date.
  • Upcoming sessions appears when your courses have live sessions scheduled. Anything happening today gets a Join button.
  • A streak panel shows your recent activity.

Select All programs to open My Programs, where you can search by course title, subject or instructor name, filter by Active / Upcoming / Completed, and select Show archived to bring back older courses. Your filters stay in the address bar, so a bookmark or a reload keeps them.

If you have no courses at all yet, the hero turns into Find your next course with a button through to the catalog.

Catalog shows what your organization has published to you. Search by name, and narrow by category, level, format, language, or change the sort (recommended, newest, A–Z, most popular). Results load as you scroll.

Open any course to see what it’s about, what you’ll learn, any requirements, who teaches it, its format, level, language and length — and a button whose wording tells you exactly how joining works:

Button What happens
Join You’re enrolled immediately and taken into the course — unless the course has a fee, in which case the note under the button says so.
Sign consent & join You read a short consent document, tick to agree, then join.
Request access You write a short reason; someone reviews it and you’re told the outcome.
Join waitlist The course is full. You’re queued and told your position.
Open program You’re already in — this opens it.

A line under the button always explains the rule in plain words, so there’s no guessing. If a course has a fee, that line says so — paid checkout isn’t available yet, so you can’t join those from the catalog.

If a course is full you’ll see how many people are waiting. When a place frees up you may be offered it. My offers & applications, at the address /learn/my-offers, collects any seat offers you’re holding, your waitlist positions, and applications still under review. There’s no menu entry for it yet, so go to that address directly. Accept a held place and you’re enrolled; decline and you give the place up.

Not everything is joinable. Many courses are assigned to you by an instructor or administrator and never appear in the catalog at all — they just show up in My Programs.

View full schedule on Home opens a single timeline of everything ahead of you across all your courses, grouped by day and in date order: assessment due dates, module unlock dates, and live sessions. Each row links to the course it belongs to.

Inside a single course, the same information appears in that course’s own schedule section. Self-paced courses say so plainly — there are no dates to track.

From the account menu you can:

  • Open Account to manage your profile, password, and privacy choices.
  • Switch language, if your organization allows people to choose their own.
  • Switch light or dark with the toggle in the top bar.
  • Open My activity to see your time on task and active days, My competencies for what you’ve mastered, and My credentials for certificates you’ve earned.

The bell in the top bar shows in-app notifications; select it to open your full notification history. What arrives by email and what stays in the app is set in your notification preferences — see Notification preferences.

Term What it is
Program A course or learning path you’re enrolled in
Offering A course as published in the catalog, with its joining rules
Module A section of a course, holding lessons and assessments
Catalog The list of courses you can look at and possibly join
Waitlist The queue for a course that’s full
Seat offer A place held for you after a waitlist spot opens
Schedule Your dated items — due dates, unlocks and live sessions

I signed in but I have no courses. Nobody has enrolled you yet, or your courses haven’t opened. Check the Catalog for anything you can join yourself, and otherwise ask your instructor or administrator to add you.

The catalog is empty. Either your filters are too narrow — use Clear filters — or your organization hasn’t published anything you can join. Being enrolled directly is just as normal.

I asked to join and nothing happened. Courses that need approval send your request to a reviewer. The panel reads “Your request has been sent. We’ll let you know when it’s reviewed.” until someone acts on it.

A course says it’s full. Join the waitlist. You’ll see your position, and you’ll be offered a place if one opens. Occasionally a course is full because your whole organization has used all of its places; the message names the numbers and puts you on the waitlist anyway.

A banner says I’m offline. Lurno keeps showing what it already loaded and marks it as saved data. Reconnect and it refreshes.
