Terminology (renaming platform terms)

Lurno ships with default names for the people and structures it manages — teacher, student, guardian, section, curriculum. The glossary overrides let you rename those words so the platform speaks your organization’s language. A company might call a teacher a “facilitator” and a student a “participant”; a customer academy might call students “customers”; a university might call a section a “cohort”. Rename once and the new word appears wherever that term is rendered.

What this does

Each renamable term has a singular and a plural form per language. Your labels replace the platform defaults across the interface for everyone in that organization — administrators, instructors and learners alike. Only the words change; the underlying features don’t.

Two things are worth knowing up front:

The list of renamable terms is set by Lurno. A platform-wide catalogue defines which terms exist and which ones organizations are allowed to customize. You can’t add a term to that list yourself.
Overrides are per organization and per language. They do not cascade to sub-organizations, and a label saved under English does not apply when someone views the platform in French, Arabic or Italian.

Before you start

Know which organization you’re editing — overrides are saved to exactly one.
Decide both the singular and the plural form. Lurno uses the plural you type rather than adding an “s”, which is what makes irregular plurals work.
Decide which language you’re editing. Repeat the exercise per language if your organization runs in more than one.

Rename a term

Open My Organizations from the Settings section of the sidebar.
Select the organization you want to edit, to open its detail view.
Go to the Language Settings tab.
Scroll to Glossary Overrides.
Use the language selector beside that heading to choose which language you’re writing labels for. It starts on the organization’s default language.
For each term you want to change, fill in both Singular and Plural. The greyed placeholder text shows the current default.
Select Save inside the Glossary Overrides box. (The identical Save higher up the tab belongs to the language, time zone and language-override settings — it does not save your terms.)

To return a term to its default, clear both its Singular and Plural fields and save.

The rest of the Language Settings tab

The same tab carries the organization’s language configuration:

Language — the organization’s default language, listed in its own script: English, العربية, Français or Italiano.
Time zone — used for reminders, deadlines and day boundaries. Not set is a real, selectable state, not a placeholder: while it’s unset, nothing is scheduled for this organization, which is safer than guessing.
Allow users to change language — whether individuals may pick their own language.

These three are saved with the Save button directly beneath them, which sits above the Glossary Overrides box.

Terms shipped as customizable by default:

School is what your organization calls itself, and it now drives the shell’s own wording rather than being hardcoded: My schools, School settings, All schools, School types, “Everyone at your school”, “Patterns across your school”. A company renaming it to Company gets My companies, Company settings and so on throughout the navigation. The platform default stays School, so leaving it alone changes nothing.

Classroom and Subject are in the catalogue but ship as non-customizable, so they don’t appear in your list. Whether a term is customizable is a Lurno-side setting.

Not everything in the product is a glossary term. Words such as program, assessment and collection are fixed platform vocabulary and cannot be renamed here. See the Glossary for what each term means.

Troubleshooting

A term I want to rename isn’t in the list. Only terms Lurno marks as customizable appear, and only the catalogue terms are renamable at all. If the word you want isn’t there, it isn’t renamable today.

I filled in a label and nothing happened. A term is only saved when both Singular and Plural have content. Fill in one and leave the other blank and that term is quietly skipped — neither saved nor cleared.

My new label isn’t showing. Check you saved in the Glossary Overrides box and not the settings Save above it, then reload. Also confirm you’re viewing the platform in the same language you wrote the override for.

Only some places changed. Some surfaces use fixed platform vocabulary rather than a glossary term, and a few similar-looking words are separate terms. Check the list for a distinct entry and rename that one too.

A sub-organization still shows the old word. Overrides don’t cascade. Open that sub-organization’s own Language Settings tab and set its terms there.

The Language Settings tab isn’t on the detail view. That tab only appears for organization administrators.
