Community settings

Everything about how community behaves in your organization lives on one page: Org settings → People → Community.

Your organization gets a preset for its kind — K‑12, Higher education, Corporate, or SaaS — and the preset decides the defaults for everything below.

Start there and adjust. Picking a preset sets the whole policy, so choose it first and customize afterwards.

A sub-organization follows its parent until it saves its own settings:

These settings are inherited from a parent organization. Saving creates a copy for this organization, which then stops following the parent.

That’s one-way. Once a sub-organization has its own copy, later parent changes don’t reach it.

What happens to a post before anyone else sees it.

Setting Options
Learner posts Review before publishing · Publish immediately, review if reported
AI moderation Screens posts with a classifier. Holds for review; never removes
Safeguarding escalation Routes self-harm and grooming signals to a named reviewer. The post is still delivered
Blocked terms Matched on normalised text, so disguises are caught

Who may start a private conversation with whom. Four pairs, each set independently:

  • Learner ↔ learner
  • Staff ↔ learner
  • Guardian ↔ staff
  • Staff ↔ staff

Each is Blocked, Allowed, Allowed, archived, or Allowed, archived, visible to guardians.

Archived and guardian-visible settings are disclosed inside the conversation to everybody in it. Nobody is recorded without being told.

Setting Effect
Learners may not post links No links from learners at all
Only listed domains An allow-list
Everything except listed domains A block-list

Subdomains are included in both lists.

Setting What it does
Learner attachments None · Documents only · Documents and images (adults only)
Read acknowledgement Lets a sender ask recipients to confirm they’ve seen an announcement
Inline translation Offers a translation of a post into the reader’s language
Anonymous posting Hides the author from members. “Authors are still visible to moderators.”
Leaderboard Ranks members by participation
Keep posts for (days) “Content past this age is redacted, not deleted.”

Image uploads are not available under a K‑12 preset — the page says so where the option would be. Elsewhere, images are gated on the person being a confirmed adult rather than on the organization’s type alone.

Some ceilings aren’t on this page because they come from your subscription:

Limit Set by
How many spaces you may create Your plan, overridable per organization
Total attachment storage Your plan
Maximum file size A platform default, overridable per organization
Members in a chat space A platform default
Participants in a group message A platform default

To change one of these, talk to Lurno. See Your plan & its limits.

Thing Behaviour
Where Org settings → People → Community
Scope The organization you have selected
Inheritance Until the sub-organization saves its own copy; then it stops
Preset Sets the whole policy — pick it before customizing
Locked K‑12 learner↔learner DMs, K‑12 learner images, guardian↔child messaging
Retention Redacts; never deletes

My changes didn’t reach a sub-organization. It has its own copy and no longer inherits.

I can’t switch on learner↔learner messaging. Your preset is K‑12, where it’s locked rather than defaulted off.

There’s no image option for learner attachments. Also the K‑12 preset. Elsewhere, images need the person to be a confirmed adult.

Changing the preset wiped my settings. A preset applies a whole policy. Adjust individual settings after picking one.

Posts have gone blank rather than disappearing. That’s the retention setting — content past its age is redacted, and the record that something was there remains.
